Obama's speech to the Muslim world
"There must be a sustained effort to listen to each other; to learn from each other; to respect one another; and to seek common ground."

55 minutes long, but worth it.

"America is not - and never will be - at war with Islam. We will, however, relentlessly confront violent extremists who pose a grave threat to our security." For a moment, after the first sentence, I thought he was going to say some "war on terror" bullshit, and...well, I'm really glad he didn't. Because it's bullshit. XD;;;

"The United States does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements. This construction violates previous agreements and undermines efforts to achieve peace. It is time for these settlements to stop." THANK YOU OBAMA. I'm still not optimistic about this, though... Even if it's great to hear Obama say it, I don't think the extremist Israeli settlers really care what the president of the United States thinks.

"I strongly reaffirmed America's commitment to seek a world in which no nations hold nuclear weapons." Yes please.

ME TOO. I don't agree with him on everything...but this made me really happy.

I don't either (can one ever agree with everything in a president?) but it's omg so good to hear sense. @____@;

Ugh, this reminds me of what I saw posted on my FB news feed the other day by one of my very religious family members.

Sorry for negative comment that is only tangentially related to your post, but I feel compelled to share.

Ughh. You know, I often complain that Obama is too religious...but seeing people say things like that kind of puts it in perspective--it could be a lot worse!

(You have my express permission to ignore me until this raging obsession has dwindled somewhat)
Apparently, at some point during the presidential race, Leonard Nimoy told Obama "it would be logical for you to be elected" (which is a lot like saying let me make a sizable contribution to your campaign AND HAVE YOUR BABIES in Vulcan, of course ;P).

Other things that are relevant, although perhaps only in the most tangential sense of the word:
1) Nimoy is Jewish (also just found this out).
2) Spock became a diplomat like his father before him, < illogical correlation>he knows about this sort of thing.< /illogical correlation> *sees connections*

Also, have you ever considered writing Trek fic? Because apparently the fandom could use someone just like you.

More seriously though, I am so, so hopeful still- despite agreeing with you on the religious thing (while I understand the import of religious rhetoric, it usually gives me hives)- and, although I wonder sometimes quite how much optimism is warranted, still just adjusting to the sense that the government might intend to move the country in a sane, somewhat positive direction (if not one I can agree with 100 percent of the time- because, at the risk of rehashing, when could that ever happen?).

Re: (You have my express permission to ignore me until this raging obsession has dwindled somewhat)
Haha that is kind of awesome.

Sadly, I don't really write fic...or know that much about Star Trek... But I agree with that person, seeing actual math in stories always makes me way too happy. XD;;

And yeah...while I can definitely find things to complain about regarding Obama, he makes me so, so happy.

P.S. Did you get my email?
