Oy vey.
The College Republicans are bringing Ann Coulter to speak at Columbia tomorrow.

I'll be writing a paper, but the fallout should be interesting...

I really don't understand what prompted them to bring her. Ann Coulter at Columbia? Seriously? (I mean, look at what she says about Jews, for a start.)

I hope my friend Ira gets some attention with his plan to go in there with a sign that says "faggot" with an arrow pointing at himself, though. If he gets kicked out (since you're not supposed to bring signs in, apparently) maybe he'll make the news. XD;

I kind of intend to go to the Conversio Virium event immediately succeeding the Coulter fiasco (which I have no interest in - seriously people, do not feed the std-flavored lion[ess]). Fuck Coulter. Ignore, ignore, ignore. ABORT, even. Oho, I pun.

Yeah, I'd really like to go to the CV event too, but...paper due Tuesday :/

Remember Ahmadinejad? Crazy President of Iran? Unless Columbia is endorsing her views, it's okay to host Ann Coulter. To be liberal means to be open minded, which means to accept the opposition -- as people, if not for their revoltingly backward opinions.

But I mean... I'm still feeling the "shank a conservative" emotions right now, so I'd definitely throw a fit if either her or Rush Limbaugh showed up at Skidmore.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be allowed to host Ann Coulter. I'm just not sure what prompted the College Republicans to bring her... When one student group brings a speaker, as opposed to the university as a whole, it gives the impression that the group in some way endorses the speaker's views. I don't think this was their intention, but...that's the impression it gives. (I had a similar issue with a crazy speaker the pro-Israel group brought to Hillel earlier in the semester...it's not that they can't bring whatever speaker they want, but they completely failed to acknowledge the racist remarks he made in the past. If they at least acknowledged the problematic views, that would help.)

Ya, good point. :/ The republican party is incredibly disappointing at the moment -- especially because their mass policy is to do whatever they can to symbolically reject Obama. McCain's daughter is supposed to be a smart woman. My grandma loves her.

Who knows, maybe she'll end up doing something awesome...bring some intelligence back into the republican party, or maybe go democrat XD

Someone seems to have put up flyers this morning advertising a "nerdy sex party" on the Columbia steps tonight "in honor of" Ann Coulter. XD This is referencing the stupid comment she made about Conversio Virium, Columbia's BDSM club--something along the lines of if they have to join a club to have sex in college, they must not be "lookers."
